Course Outline and Breakdown

Introduction Assignment - self evaluation.

The first assignment for the student will be a self-evaluation. This will include past education, work experience, where you live, hobbies and interests. The student will also be asked why they are taking the course and what their expectations are.

The rest of the course is broken down into five sections.

Section 1 - Marketing and Sales

  • Demographics, target market, market niche, setting goals

  • Sales and selling, hard sell, soft sell, cold calls, follow up, networking, public appearances, image.

Section 2 - Advertising Media

  • Print media, television, radio

  • Free advertising in the media.

Section 3 - Production

  • Concept and benefit, design, copy, document layout, proofing, printing, paper forms and stock, colour, logo, slogan, artwork.

Section 4 - Setting Up and Running Your Business

  • Type of business, sole proprietor, corporation, partnership, other types of business

  • Business plan, financial objectives and projections, cash flow, expenses, accounting and taxes

  • Regulations and licenses, associations, standards

  • Location, office set up.

Section 5 - You and Your Business

  • Part-time, full-time and all the time

  • Time management, funnel and flow, commitment, self evaluation (past), self evaluation (future).
